Problem
Transport
Hardly any relief goods are being transported to Culion. Resources in the island are now depleting.
Boat is the only way to transport goods now. We need at least ONE boat moving in the next few weeks to get food and water from Coron, the nearest island.
In the later weeks, more boats will be needed to transport goods not only to the main island, Culion town, but also to the other islands that are inhabited by indigenous people. This is where the fishermen's boats will help, but repair is also needed for these. Currently, we are assessing the fishermen's boats' damages and costs.
Kawil Tours' boat is the island's least damage boat, and the biggest one in the island. It would need Php 30,000 for repair.
When Kawil Tours tried operating it initially, they found a hole on the left side, requiring them to change the entire left part of the boat.
The fastest repair might take at least two weeks. We're trying to contact aviation companies for the immediate rescue for this week.
If we can raise more, we'll allocate it to all the fishermen who can then repair their boats for relief operations. These boats will also help them get their livelihoods back in the future.
Food and water
Relief goods are being gathered at the drop-off point outside Culion, but transport is needed to bring these to the island. We are also getting updates about food and water running out, so donations may also be used for these. For quick updates about the situation and help needed, please go to Kawil Tours' FB page.
